Meet Nicola "Cookie" Jones
For over 20 years, Nicola "Cookie" Jones has been a noteworthy community leader. You may know her from her work as the Program Coordinator for Department of Recreation in Washington, D.C. but Cookie can also be credited with spending her time serving the Washington, D.C Community and contributing as a mentor and football coach to Beacon House a non-profit organization dedicated to serving at risk youth where she herself as a child in the program. Prior to founding 1 way 2 rise, she earned a B.A. in Business Management from Clark University, also earning a M.S. in Sports Management at Grambling State University. During her undergraduate and post graduate career, she played and coached the game of basketball at high school, collegiate and semi-pro level. Sports has not only been her love but passion.

Washington, D.C. is where she lived most of her life. She decided to start her non-profit organization as a way to give back to the youth and young adults, as she experienced first hand as being an at risk youth herself. She was homeless from the age of 9 to 15 years old and forced to grow up faster than she should being responsible for her younger siblings who depended on her.

Growing up in D.C. she lost a brother, father and many childhood friends to the toxic inner city environment. Drugs, poverty, hunger, homelessness, depression, mental illness, and street violence plagued her family and others for too long. She made the decision to change her future and assist changing the lives of others. She was determined to not be a product of her environment. She learned first hand that it takes a village to help raise a child. Her objective in life is to leave a foot print in this cruel world. She birthed 1Way2rise to continue helping those in need. Her motto, "There is only 1way2rise by working together."
